Project Brief

MedGenz India Pvt. Ltd. undertook a full turnkey healthcare infrastructure project for Trinity Hospital in Aizawl, Mizoram. The project covered the Modular Operation Theatre (OT), Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), ICU, Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS), Nurse Call System and Curtain Track System.

In a hospital, the surgical, critical care and sterile processing areas depend on each other. A well-built OT still cannot perform if gas supply, sterile workflow or patient monitoring is weak. For a hospital in a region where specialist healthcare is limited, these systems have to be right the first time.

MedGenz delivered all six systems as one integrated turnkey solution, from planning and design through supply, installation, testing and handover, under a single point of responsibility.

Project Objectives:

The main objectives of the project were to:

  • Build a modular OT with hygienic, easy-to-clean surfaces and a controlled, filtered-air environment.
  • Set up a CSSD with a one-directional workflow, from decontamination to sterile storage.
  • Equip the ICU with reliable utilities and a layout that supports continuous patient monitoring.
  • Install a centralized MGPS to supply medical gases to the OT, ICU and other clinical areas within the agreed scope.
  • Provide a Nurse Call System so patients can reach nursing staff quickly.
  • Install Curtain Track Systems for patient privacy and easy cleaning in ward and ICU areas.
  • Coordinate all systems under one agency, with testing and commissioning before handover.

Scope of Services:

1. Modular Operation Theatre

The OT was built using pre-engineered panel systems designed to reduce dust-collecting joints and ease cleaning. The work included:

  • Wall and ceiling panels with smooth, seamless-style finishes
  • Chemical-resistant, antistatic flooring
  • Hermetically sealed OT doors
  • Filtered air supply and air-conditioning arrangements, as specified
  • OT lights, control panel, pass box and scrub station, as specified

2. Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD)

The CSSD was planned around a one-way flow so that used and sterile items never cross paths. The work included:

  • Layout planning for receiving and decontamination, packing, sterilization and sterile storage zones
  • Installation of sterilization and related equipment, as specified
  • Functional checks after installation

3. ICU Infrastructure

The ICU was planned for patient visibility, staff movement and utility access at the bedside. The work included:

  • Bed-head utility provisions, as specified
  • Integration with MGPS outlets, Nurse Call and curtain tracks
  • Electrical and layout coordination with the ICU equipment plan

4. Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS)

The MGPS covered the full pipeline network for the clinical areas. The work included:

  • Planning and routing of the pipeline network
  • Supply and installation of source equipment, pipelines, outlets, valves and alarms
  • Pressure and leak testing before commissioning
  • Commissioning and handover documentation

5. Nurse Call System

  • Bedside call units and staff-station indicators, as specified
  • Installation, wiring and functional testing

6. Curtain Track System

  • Ceiling-mounted tracks for patient privacy in ICU and ward areas
  • Tracks and curtains selected for regular cleaning and long-term use

All materials, specifications and responsibilities are governed by the applicable project agreement.

Project Execution Approach:

Site Assessment and Planning: We began by studying the hospital’s building, its clinical requirements and the priorities for each department.

Design and Engineering: The OT, CSSD, ICU, MGPS, Nurse Call and curtain tracks were designed together, so that ceilings, utilities and layouts did not clash on site.

Supply and Installation: Materials and equipment were supplied and installed to the agreed specifications, with attention to joints, finishes and cleanliness at each stage.

Testing and Commissioning: MGPS pressure and leak tests, OT functional checks and Nurse Call testing were carried out before handover.

Handover and Documentation: The completed work was handed over with documentation and a walk-through for the hospital team, to support future operation and maintenance.

Challenges Addressed:

Aizawl is far from major equipment manufacturing hubs, and the terrain makes material movement and rework costly. Coordinating separate vendors for OT, CSSD, ICU and gas systems in such a location can cause delays and compatibility issues that are hard to fix later.

The turnkey approach was chosen to avoid this. One agency handled planning, supply, installation and commissioning for all six systems, so the hospital had one point of contact and one set of responsibilities.

Project Benefits:

  • Single-Point Responsibility: One agency managing planning, execution and handover across all systems.
  • Integrated Planning: OT, CSSD, ICU, MGPS, Nurse Call and curtain tracks designed to work together.
  • Hygiene Support: Seamless surfaces, sealed joints and a one-way sterile workflow.
  • Reliable Utility Supply: A centralized medical gas system serving critical areas.
  • Patient Safety Support: A Nurse Call System that keeps patients connected to staff.
  • Fewer Vendors, Fewer Delays: Clear communication and accountability throughout the project.

Actual outcomes depend on the scope of work, site conditions, equipment installed and the terms of the project agreement.

Client Feedback:

“Setting up OT, CSSD, ICU and medical gas systems together is a big task for any hospital. MedGenz handled everything as one team, from planning to handover, and that made the process much simpler for us. We appreciate their professionalism and technical support throughout the project.”
